Life Revitalizer

A new kind of health kick entered my life this week. (what’s new)

It’s something I have actually never properly tried before, but I started the minute I realised that I eat at least one form of carbs per meal, eat far too much fruit and drink a lot of milk.

I decided to take it back to basics for a few weeks, cleanse my body, start fresh and just see what happens along the way. It won’t kill me.

So as of three days ago, I have cut out all white carbs, fruit, sugar AND dairy.
My body is screaming “whyy?!!” but my head is yelling – “you can doo it!!” and continues to offer up visuals of an 80 year old me crankin some kick ass Yoga poses.

I thought people who drank long blacks were weird (whats the point if there’s no milk) Now, every morning I drink one long black with no sugar and a bit of cinnamon – I’m loving it.  I eat eggs, spinach and tomatoes for breakfast.  Lunches are usually salads with no carbs, no dressing (occasionally balsamic or lemon) and plenty of veges and protein.  Dinners are proving to be a little more difficult.

I have come to realise over the last few days how much shit I was actually consuming.  You notice it more once you have to make the conscious effort to not eat/drink certain foods.

Heres an example of what I used to eat:

Tank juice – 4x per week
Sushi4x per week
Diet Coke – 3x per week
Coffee with trim milk and sugar – 6x per week
Toast – 2x per week
Oats with honey and banana – 4x per week
Bagels – 1x per week
Potatoes or carbs at dinner – nearly every night

This is just a portion of the “shit” food.  Sushi may seem like a healthy option – but it’s actually not (I am sad about this).

I plan on documenting my progress and recipes I come across.  You wouldn’t think so, but there are SO many things you can make with such a limited diet.

Here’s a few things I have learnt so far:

  • Bananas have the equivalent of SIX cubes of sugar in it (sad face)
  • Eggs not only are a great source of protein, but they help with weight loss
  • Mexican food (minus the carbs) do wonders for your diet/body
  • Spinach is a great substitute for rice.  1/2 cup spinach = 30 calories  1/2 cu rice = 300 calories
  • Diets aren’t about starving yourself – if you still feel hungry, it’s because you probably need more protein/water
  • Red wine is ok (no more than 2 glasses per day)
  • Allow yourself one cheat day

I’ll keep posting info as I come across it.  I find this all really fascinating and am looking forward to trying new recipes and discovering the hundreds of things I can do with beans and lentils.

Recipes and tips are welcomed – I’m determined to see this through for at least a month and then slowly allow fruit back into my life!
