My New Favorite Family

I’ve been writing a lot about health lately – mainly because I’ve been obsessed with this whole no-sugar thing, but I’ve been itching to write about something a bit different.

Enter my new discovery: The Novogratz.

This NYC family of nine are the coolest family ever. Has anyone heard of them?

Husband and wife duo Robert and Cortney Novogratz are self-taught interior designers.  They build, design and sell houses at a rapid rate – all while raising 7 children under the age of 11.  I don’t know how they do it – but they have me so inspired.

What I love about them is how fearless they are and their amazing ability to push boundaries and do the unexpected.  They remind me a lot of my parents who have been buying or building and renovating houses since before I was born.  My Dad – a Chartered Accountant by trade has the most amazing brain – which never ever stops thinking.  He’s the ultimate dreamer and problem solver.  If he wants to build a huge cave attached to the side of a pool complete with a spa inside and a waterfall – he’ll get it done.  (Complete with a clay model mock-up of the entire project.)

My Mum is just as amazing – all of our houses have looked like something out of a magazine, her taste is quirky and colourful and she manages to piece each room together beautifully.  I feel very lucky to live in the houses that I have, she definitely influenced my interest in interior design (something i don’t blog about enough I don’t think…)

Back to the Novogratz…

Here’s a couple of examples of a few of the houses they have decorated.  They have a show called 9 by Design which sadly ran for one season – but it was enough to get me fired up and excited to start buying and renovating houses sometime soon.
