Meet The Slashers
I was the type of kid who had a million different ideas of what I wanted to do and be when I grew up and I seriously thought I could do them all.
Fast forward a few years later and I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. Who wants to settle in one job anyway?
So what is a slasher? (Shame about the word ‘Slasher’ really – sounds like some kind of psycho killer)
I first read about Slashers in an older issue of Vogue once day in a random little coffee shop. I had been feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything I had going on but was conflicted with the fact that I love doing so many things, when I opened the magazine and it literally fell open on the article about women who have the need to do it all. Otherwise known as Slashers.
Take me for example: Advertising Exec slash photographer slash graphic designer slash sometimes blogger.
Slashers are people who want to try everything – yet worry there isn’t enough time in life to do them all. So they multi-task and try do it all at once.
I always wanted to be a photographer, which I do on weekends while working a pretty sweet job in advertising during the week. I do a bit of graphic design for people who need logo, flyers etc and then squeeze in the odd TV Ad to keep me entertained.
Though I may come across as indecisive and flaky, I’m really not. I’m more aware that in 10 years time I’m probably going to have a family and little time or energy to tick as many “Dream Jobs” off my very long list.
Jobs like photography keep me sane and my creative side alive after a 40 hour week.
Naturally I’m feeling the itch and I feel like it’s almost time to continue ticking those jobs off the list – like working on a cruise ship in Greece, or as a paddle board instructor in France while fulfilling my dream of being a travel writer as I jet set around the world.
Would be interesting to meet more people who think like this…

well i can totally relate ….. i wanna explore new things , i like designing , & i have got a thing for the old antiques but doing any of them , or pursuing any of them looks kinda difficult … i cnt get a bus to get on that road …
but you are trying to live it ,,,,,
that s good , after all who want a monotonous life …
Wats d fun in dat !!
^_^
Exactly :) Life’s too short to get stuck in one job forever (unless you love it).
I am exactly like that. I have a big list and never feel like there is enough time in the day because I have to do boring stuff. You should check out marieforleo.com. She is a life/business coach but talks about being a multi-passionate entrepreneur. I phrase which I think really suits me.
Yeah exactly! Thanks for the link – it’s exactly what I’m after!!
Quite like ‘Multi-passionate entrepreneur” or MPE perhaps..
That is crazy! I was trying to look for the other feet but I realized people can tweak with pictures now.
Haha yes…they can do that these days!
